NOTES:
 
CMOS Prizes are normally for achievements in the calendar year prior to the congress year and are designated as awards for the previous year. 

CMOS Scholarships and Scholarship Supplements are awarded for the academic year following the congress.

CMOS Fellows are members so designated at the time of the award and henceforth entitled to call themselves Fellows of the Society as long as membership is maintained.

Some non-CMOS Awards are also presented at congresses.  Details are given below.

Ada Loewen (Carleton University), for her two contributions of special merit: Her impactful community-engaged oceanographic research in Nunavut and her exceptional service to CMOS.

Daniel Garduño Ruiz (University of Victoria), for his excellence in atmospheric chemistry modelling, examining the interplay between climate variation and chemical change during the oxidation of the atmosphere, into the geological past. .

Parisa A. Ariya, Distinguished James McGill Professor, in Atmospheric and oceanic sciences, and Chemistry  /  Professeure distinguée James McGill en sciences atmosphériques et océaniques et en chimie.
  • Dr. Parissa Ariya is a leading atmospheric chemist whose research has transformed understanding of air pollution, aerosols, and toxic compounds. Over her 28-year career, Dr. Ariya has pioneered studies on mercury and halogen chemistry in cold environments, developed innovative pollutant detection technologies, and advised international bodies on environmental policy.

  • Her cutting-edge research is foundational in the growing field of air-pollution meteorology, and her work has opened the door for numerous subsequent studies. Dr. Ariya has advised the Canadian government in developing and updating policies and legislation on the environment, such as the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, and policies on human health and toxic contaminations, including the International Mercury Treaty.

  • With over 170 publications and extensive mentorship, Dr. Ariya has shaped air-pollution meteorology in Canada and globally, earning major scientific awards and recognition for her public engagement. Dr. Ariya is also passionate and dedicated to developing future generations of scientists and researchers.

  • Dre Parissa Ariya est une chimiste atmosphérique de premier plan dont les recherches ont transformé la compréhension de la pollution atmosphérique, des aérosols et des composés toxiques. Au cours de ses 28 ans de carrière, Dre Ariya a été pionnière dans des études sur la chimie du mercure et des halogènes dans les environnements froids, a mis au point des technologies novatrices de détection des polluants et a conseillé des organismes internationaux en matière de politique environnementale.
  • Ses recherches de pointe sont fondamentales dans le domaine en pleine croissance de la météorologie de la pollution atmosphérique, et ses travaux ont ouvert la voie à de nombreuses études ultérieures.  Dre Ariya a conseillé le gouvernement canadien dans l’élaboration et la mise à jour de politiques et de lois sur l’environnement, notamment la Loi canadienne sur la protection de l’environnement et les politiques sur la santé humaine et les contaminations toxiques, y compris le Traité international sur le mercure. 
  • Avec plus de 170 publications et un vaste mentorat, Dre Ariya a façonné la météorologie de la pollution atmosphérique au Canada et dans le monde, remportant d’importants prix scientifiques et une reconnaissance pour son engagement public. Dre Ariya est également passionnée et dévouée au développement des futures générations de scientifiques et de chercheurs.<> 




David Sills, Northern Tornadoes Project, Deputy Director - Canadian Severe Storms Laboratory, Western University / Northern Tornadoes Project, Directeur adjoint - Canadian Severe Storms Laboratory, Université Western.
  • Dr. Sills is a leading researcher and innovator in severe weather. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Sills has made significant contributions to the understanding severe weather and advanced impact-based forecasts and warnings.

  • His research and leadership, including at the Northern Tornadoes Project and the Canadian Severe Storms Laboratory, have significantly contributed to the assessment and understanding of convective weather in Canada, informing risk analysis and community resiliency.

  • Dr Sills’ work has fostered national and international collaboration and strong working relationships that cross traditional organizational and disciplinary boundaries. His career is marked by scientific leadership, a collaborative nature, and continuous dedication to support current and future generations of Canadian scientists, and in making meteorology more accessible to experts and the public.
